The 1920's have always been a HUGE hit among people of today...especially for halloween. Who doesn't want to dress up like a "roaring 20's" flapper, the essence of youthful rebellion and an exemplar of how one should live enjoying life, regardless of what parents, or even laws tell them. It even makes for an interesting topic for a paper (provided it fits the idea of the paper of course) How many people actually know facts about the 1920's, however? It's time to do some research!
First let's go to our good friend, WIKIPEDIA. Every teachers nightmare, and every student's first choice...which really isn't the smartest first choice that there could be. We've all been told several times over why it's not a good source..you could probably recite with me as I say them. Ready class? Anyone on the internet can post on the entries and change things (who hasn't had friends change something on wiki just for fun?), the people who do post have no reliable credibility to them, etc. While http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1920s has quite a bit of information, it should perhaps be the last source you want to use in a research paper.
Okay, so what's the next choice then? Let's say that you're doing "Illinois in the 1920's" The next best website would be to use http://www.usgennet.org/usa/il/state/alhn1920.html. This is a governmental site with actual documents, etc. While it's still not the most credible source, it's definately a step up from wikipedia.
The last, and best sources come from a scholarly search engine, such as can be found at the BYU library's web site. http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/results?vid=2&hid=101&sid=b4cc9c43-0947-4be6-b3f4-064345471d60%40sessionmgr107&bquery=(1920%27s)&bdata=JmRiPWFobCZ0eXBlPTAmc2l0ZT1laG9zdC1saXZlJnNjb3BlPXNpdGU%3d has some FANTASTIC scholarly sources to be used regarding the 1920's.
