"We founded America. BAM!! What's up?"
The BEST place to live is so amazing that Disney (c.) even decided to make a movie about it. How do you beat that? That's right, you CAN'T.
Yorktown, Virginia is my FAVORITE place that I've lived so far in my life. That's saying something, especially once you know how many different places I've lived. One of the wonderful things about Yorktown, is all the history behind it. Yorktown is where we won The American Revolution, and it's part of what is known as "The Historic Triangle." Jamestown (the first permanent residence that didn't disappear) and Willamsburg (the capital of the Colonies for a LONG time) are the other other two places. Between the three different places, America found it's feet and became the nation it is to day. The state slogan is "Virginia is for Lovers," but it should be "We founded AMERICA! Bam!!! What's up?!" This isn't the only thing of interest, however. In 1995 Disney (c.) decided to make a movie about Pocahontas, which just so happened to be set in Jamestown. Jamestown was an extremely significant place in American history.
Virginia also has TREES. and GRASS. two things that the Western United States could stand to learn about. Another physical feature that makes Yorktown the best place to live is that it's a mere half hour drive to the ocean, and just a few hours drive to the scenic Skyline Drive of Blue Ridge Mountains. No matter if you're a water fan, or prefer to hike, there's something for you.
If you're not such a fan of the nature, no worries! Busch Gardens is right down the road, and once you get a season pass, you and your friends can fun all day! There are also several convient nearby malls that you can shop at, all without having to live in a big city.
Most importantly, the people are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. You're right by a major Air Force Base (Langley), so new people are common. It's just become second habit to many of the citizens to just smile and say hello, regardless of if they know you are not. Neighbors are friendly to one another, and make sure to welcome newcomers into the neighboorhoods.
Yorktown, Virginia is amazing, and while you could look at pictures and say "oh, I guess it's pretty enough", you have to go there to truely realize the beauty of the trees and the Grass; especially right inbetween spring and Summer, when there are so many different shades of green that it physically makes your eyes hurt if you stare at them too long. Or to sit and watch the ocean crash into the land, the foam turning the brown sand bubbly and white. Or even to go visit the ruins of an old plantation surrounded by massive oaks that seem to almost protect the ghosts of the people who lived there before you.
If you ever get to decided where you're going to live, I would defiantely say Yorktown, Va is the ONLY place to live.

My favorite thing about BYU
There is contention and turmoil everywhere these days. Opposing views make it extremely difficult to know which side is true. Luckily, this is not true at BYU!!
Just as we are told in the scriptures to be of one mind and one purpose in the gospel, many people at BYU have the same beliefs in politics. There are so many die hard republicans it's very easy to find another person with similar ideas as you. In walking past the College Democrats table, many new friendships have been made from people laughing at the one person sitting there.
Needless to say, Obama will not have a very strong support group from BYU, and there aren't any dreadful LIBERALS around to act like a bunch of crazies.

Least favorite thing about BYU......
Here we are- BYU!!!! I've been dreaming of this ever since I can remember (minus a few years when I felt the compelling need to rebel from my parents. How does refusing to go to the college of my choice accomplish that? I haven't a clue.) College is certainly very different from the use of time that we call High School. The teachers actually know what they're talking about, the Church is incorporated into EVERY lesson, and most importantly: There are HUNDREDS of cute, single(!), Mormon guys. :) All in all, it's pretty much fabulous. Sure, you could complain about the work load,the cold in SEPTEMBER (!!!!), the girls who want to get married right off, or even all the stairs around campus, the thing that bothers me the most is listening to people (both students and Professors alike) talking about politics.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm really not a Democrat. The only problem is, I don't agree with the Republicans either. In my mind both groups are stupid, and full of a lot of (pardon my language) blow bags, who spend all their time smashing the other group/candidate, instead of focusing on how to solve issues our country faces. I honestly believe George Washington had it right when he warned the American people against political parties. They stink.
Now knowing this about me, imagine my consternation when out of nowhere someone starts a Democrat bashing party, or what's worse, a LIBERAL bashing party. Every class I've been in has had a discussion in this direction, not to mention several dinner conversations with my roommates. If I had a smaller sense of self-preservation I would start arguing the definition of the heinous word LIBERAL. Dictionary.com defines it as:
favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.

of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism.

According to this definition then, our Founding Fathers were LIBERALS. Martin Luther King Jr. was a LIBERAL. Mother Theresa could even be classified as a LIBERAL. (Please no one jump me after this. I mean it as a compliment.) Some where along the line of time people started using it to signify weirdos, nut jobs, and (according to a few people) Criminally insane. I don't care if you're republican- heck my whole family is. Just please don't make them out to be sent from Heavenly Father himself. Both parties have equally crappy candidates, and both parties have had people make the same mistakes. I've heard several people talk about how McCain faces his mistakes, such as the mess that was his first marriage. However, when Obama admitted to having tried drugs in high school, and how he turned his life around, he was berated for making the mistake in the first place. In my mind, it's impressive to see how he's changed, and what he's done with his life. That's worthy of congratulations, not scorn and hatred. The same goes for the Democrats who chastise McCain for the mistake of his first marriage. If everyone would take a second pointing fingers at their enemies mistakes they might see that they have the exact same problems. I don't ask for a perfect president, merely one who takes responsibility for his actions, and learns from his mistakes.
So yes, I suppose I'm overreacting a little bit, but it applies for both parties; Democrats and Republicans. Both parties are equally wrong at different things, so I just wouldn't get to excited about one or the other. Moderate's the way to go!
